Cathay Pacific states cost-reduction measures

The national airline of Hong-Kong, Cathay Pacific has stated that it will reduce its cost due to a severe business downturn. However, following the deterioration of the business conditions, Cathay Pacific is looking forward to apply some cost-reduction measures i.e. as from May 2009, Cathay Pacific will reduce its passengers capacity by 8% and the general cargo capacity by 11%. Moreover, Cathay Pacific will reduce its flights frequencies and seat capacity to destinations such as London, Paris, Frankfurt, Sydney, Singapore, Bangkok, Seoul, Taipei, Tokyo, Mumbai and Dubai. Furthermore, to reduce its cost Cathay Pacific is proposing to its employees a ‘Special Leave Scheme’ i.e. Cathay Pacific staff will be asked to take unpaid leave fluctuating from one to four weeks according to their superiority.

Qatar Airways join up with IATA for Environmental Programme

The national airline of Qatar, Qatar Airways based at Doha has joined up with IATA so as to initiate the Passenger Friendly Environmental Programme i.e. the Global Carbon Offset Trading Scheme. However, passengers flying with Qatar Airways can decide while booking their air tickets, whether they would like to pay an additional fee to offset the carbon footprint for the particular flight being taken. Thus, if passengers flying with Qatar Airways choose to do so, they will be bound to a carbon offset website where the IATA system will calculate the carbon footprint for the specific region being booked. Moreover, Qatar Airways passengers will be able to then select from a range of named international environmental projects they wish to support with the extra they contributed.

Cathay Pacific Airways Awarded at Skytrax Awards

The flag carrier of Hong-Kong, Cathay Pacific Airways has been awarded ‘Airline of the Year 2009’ in the Skytrax 2009 World Airline Award during a ceremony which was held at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, Germany marking the 10th Anniversary of the Award. In addition, the Hong-Kong’s national airline, Cathay Pacific Airways was named Best Airline Asia in the same year. Moreover, this award was based on a survey where above 16.2 million passengers from 97 different nationalities participated. However, the ‘Airline of the Year 2009’ award was carried out between August 2008 and March 2009. Furthermore, Cathay Pacific Airways has received positive feedback in 2003 and 2005 for its lounges and inflight products. Moreover, Cathay Pacific Airways has been awarded in 2008, the Best First Class title for the launching of its revolutionary new cabins.
