As from 16th February 2009, Lufthansa will commence restoring its 300 existing check-in terminals with new upgraded ones. Moreover the terminals will be set up at Lufthansa’s hub in Frankfurt and at Milan Malpensa. The new check-in terminals provide integrated radio frequency identification (RFID) scanner that can read passports and identification cards and have a larger monitor for easier readability. Thus passengers are check-in once their passport data has been scanned. However passengers checking with miles just have to hold their card against the scanner in order to trigger the check-in procedure. Lufthansa is the first airline worldwide using the RFID technology at its check-in terminals.
